The Solution
The Problem
Weight gain is a symptom of a basic problem. That problem is a lack of homeostasis (or balance) within the body. There are a variety of things that can cause weight gain. The most common are an imbalance in a persons blood sugar or the toxic load of the body.
- Blood Sugar Imbalance
The body needs a steady supply of nutrients and oxygen to create the energy that the cells of our body require. We provide our bodies oxygen when we breathe and nutrients when we eat. If we go to long without eating, the amount of sugar in our blood drops below what we need to operate, the body starts to convert muscle tissue into sugar (glucose) in order to get what it needs. If we eat too much during a meal, we can end up releasing more sugar into our bloodstream than our body needs. When that happens, the body stores the access as fat in our muscle tissue. So this means that every person should eat in a way that helps them to maintain a health blood sugar balance. This is not just for those who are diabetic.
- Toxic Load
If the toxic load of your body is greater than what your body can neutralize or eliminate, then your body will activate its protection mechanism to encapsulate the toxins in fat and store them. When you start eating properly, your body will start to release the fat that has the toxins stored in it. This is why it is so important to ensure your Liver, Kidneys and Colon are operating a full capacity to eliminate the toxins from your body. If the toxins are not eliminated they may get reabsorbed back into your bloodstream and stored again or they may cause other health issues. - Muscle Loss
Our muscles are where the energy that our body produces is converted into mechanical energy (or motion). In essence, our muscles are our metabolism. The more muscle we have, the more calories we can burn even while at rest. Being able to burn as many calories as we take in is known as your "Set Point." As we age, we have a tendency to lose muscle mass which lowers our Set Point. When this happens our body's cannot burn as many calories as before and if we continue to take in the same amount of calories as before, our body will not be able to burn it all. So what does our body do with the excess calories? It stores it as fat for use later.
